We are delighted to share that, on 24 June 2018, a delegation of “United Form Against Tobacco (UFAT)” and “Bangladesh Network for NCD Control & Prevention” met with Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Co-ordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister’s Office. The delegation led by National Professor Brigadier (Rtd.) Abdul Malik, Founder and President, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh.

National Professor Brigadier (Rtd.) Abdul Malik discussed and emphasized on approval of the National Tobacco Control Policy and undertaking a National Tobacco Control Program. Representatives of the delegation briefly discussed about the same issues as well as the implementation of those. They expressed the importance of National Tobacco Control Policy and National Tobacco Control Program in relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therewithal, they placed that, to achieve the Honorable Prime Minister’s commitment “to make Bangladesh tobacco free by 2040” these two are now the burning issues in tobacco control field of Bangladesh.

Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Co-ordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister’s Office given a patience hearing. He considered the urges with due importance and expressed his kind expectancy to take necessary initiatives on those.

Shariful Alam, Lead Consultant, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK); Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan, Grants Manager, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK); Mr. Hasan Shahriar, Coordinator, PROGGA and Lylun naher, Advocacy Officer, Department of Epidemiology & Research, National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute.
