A delegation of Bangladesh Network for NCD Control & Prevention (BNNCP) met with Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on 15 May 2018 at his office in Bangladesh Secretariat. The delegation led by National Professor Brig. (Rtd.) Abdul Malik, Founder & President, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh.

Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, renowned Economist of Bangladesh and Chairman, Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF); Mr. Kazi Rafikul Alam, President, Dhaka Ahsania Mission and representatives from BNNCP participated in the meeting and expressed sturdy demands on raising tobacco tax and relevant issues of tobacco taxation. A set of recommendation on tobacco taxation for the upcoming budget of FY 2018-19 was submitted before Honorable Minister for his kind consideration.

Honorable Minister given keen attention on the recommendations and also given patience hearing to overall discussion as well as everyone’s comments with due importance. Later on, he revealed assurance to the delegates about considering the recommendations.

Shariful Alam, Lead Consultant, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK), Bangladesh and Mr. Sharf Uddin Ahamd Choudhury, consultant, Anti-tobacco Program, National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute.
